This is not another blog post about developing a comprehensive, well-defined social media strategy. This is not a blog post discussing the importance of developing enticing content on Twitter so your audience deems it “retweet worthy.”
This is about who I love to follow on Twitter and why. It is my hope that you may certainly ascertain some Twitter “pointers” from my review of this list of favs. However, please note that, like many facets of the marketing profession itself, the list is completely biased and subjective.
It’s summertime — so while lounging in the sun or enjoying a ferry ride — here are the Tweeples that catch my eye, make me smile, get multiple click-throughs, and earn my retweets. Consistently.
- @Phillies. I love the Phillies because they have the best pitching lineup in baseball. Oh, wait, that’s obvious. What I meant to say is that I love the Phillies twitter feed because I consistently receive timely tweets on the score and exciting plays during the games. The feed also provides an upbeat and concise report of injuries and relevant stats on the team.
- @HeidiAmes. Talk about a positive attitude and upbeat approach to life, Heidi takes amazing photos of her surroundings with just the right captions.
- @swichi293. Funniest photos and tweets among the 240 people that I follow. When tweeting about professional topics, Brian Swichkow’s tweets are quite substantive and informative. But it’s the humorous tweets I like the best.
- @TheFullMontyVT. A local journalist and mom, she posts links to great, relevant stories and the best photo of a puppy the Twitterverse has ever seen. Who can resist a puppy?
- @boloco. This burrito chain of restaurants posts compliments and insults alike – their tweets are not overly brag-gy or sales-y; and they report the bitter as well as the sweet. Authentic and real.
- @Steve_McIntyre. A brilliant web developer (full disclosure: I work with him), Steve posts ingenious and original material. Who can ignore a tweet that says “Put your pointer where your pothole is…”?
- @KellyRipa. I know — she’s famous, rich, young, thin, and blonde. Her tweets are also self-deprecating and real. She posts photos of her family and friends, and I love a glimpse at the rich and famous.
- @chucktodd. Another famous person and direct political reporter, he tweets salient sound bites live from White House briefings. He also posts occasional sports and weather observations that are amusing.
- @CabotCoop. Cabot makes awesome cheddar cheese. I live for cheddar. Cabot tweets cheese recipes and lunch suggestions. I cannot, and do not, resist.
- @JohnKruk_ESPN. The latest addition to my “follow” list, I had a venting tweet about “the Krukker” the other night, and he tweeted me right back. Live from ESPN’s studio during the game. How cool is that?
So — upon reviewing my list — do you share any of the same favorites? My suspicion is that even if our favorite “tweeples” differ, the reason for making our Top Ten Twitterer list may be remarkably similar.
