Are you making the most out of your slide decks? When we are planning the integration of social media networks into a client’s existing marketing efforts at Marketing Partners, we have found slide decks to be one of the most often overlooked marketing opportunities. Amplifying existing efforts (and content) through social media channels is one key objective for most small-to-medium businesses and nonprofits, and it is absolutely essential for those focused on making positive social change happen. After all, the greater the challenge the greater the need to use limited resources well.

Leveraging Slide Decks

If you have a treasure trove of material from whitepapers, conference presentations and keynotes, you want to use that content in a way that makes it easy for multiple audiences or customer/prospect groups to find it. Your website is a given, because within the Paid-Owned-Earned Media framework, you own your website. But you put a great deal of effort into creating that paper-presentation-whatever, and you want to do more to help people discover it. A slide deck sharing social media channel is the answer. Although we use several services to help clients leverage their materials, we favor SlideShare for its ease of entry, sharing functions and scalability.

Here is an excellent recent video from SEOmoz on exactly how to do this well. We particularly cheered the very practical, but often overlooked tip to post your slide deck in advance and add the link to the first and last slide of your presentation before you head out to the Big Conference. (We like to include placeholders for these links in clients’ PowerPoint templates so it’s not forgotten.)
