This is a test. This is only a test. This is a test to see if the time and effort put into carefully maintaining a list on Twitter can be leveraged on Listly using its new Twitter list integration. For my test I’m using the list I’ve built over the years for active members of the Sustainability community on Twitter.

Sustainability defined

If you’re at all active on Twitter, you’re likely to have given up on your cluttered Home stream and now filter your Twitter timeline into a much more reasonable set of tweets organized in lists by industry, topics, clients, and so forth. (Here’s the why and how of Twitter lists for business.)

I started the Sustainability list on Twitter because I was dissatisfied with the existing resources. There were so-called sustainability lists of ‘green’ companies, lists of huge multinational corporations with published CSR agendas, climate change activists, renewable energy specialists, and lists of the media covering the subject narrowly. But I define sustainability broadly. I wanted to listen, learn and engage with those with an integrated philosophy that includes the environment, social impact and minimizing waste. Way beyond #Green. And I’m interested in people who are still working at the challenge, rather than those who believe there’s one solution or that we’re already there.

Twitter lists

Yet it takes a lot of work to hone such a list, adding new bright lights and trimming those who have left the field. And Twitter lists grow stale quickly. My Sustainability list on Twitter has often languished while my attention was drawn elsewhere. The idea of sharing the task with like-minded Tweeps was exciting.

Listly has been around for a while now, and many bloggers swear by how easy the tool makes list building, embedding, updating, item voting, and sharing. But importing an existing Twitter list introduces a new level of convenience, with the added benefit of automatic list syncing with Twitter.

So what do you think?  Do you see promise in using Listly to interact with others to curate Twitter lists or leverage your own?
