The Social CEO: One tool that trumps all

By |2017-07-15T13:16:37-04:00June 6th, 2013|Marketing Strategy, Social Media|

During a recent client meeting, the CEO asked: Should I be on Twitter? This CEO had just come from an industry conference and had participated in a Tweet-up. This was the CEO’s first real exposure to Twitter, although the company has had an established Twitter account for several years. The CEO’s question about Twitter was [...]

The Top 5 Sustainability Infographics of 2013

By |2021-08-30T13:16:42-04:00June 3rd, 2013|Infographics, Sustainability|

You'd think I would have learned this lesson. Last year I set out criteria for evaluating quality and lamented the overall lack of sustainability infographics. This year I can report sustainability visuals are abundant, thanks in large part to the meteoric rise in popularity of the social network Pinterest. But I’m not at all sure visual [...]

15 Hot Takeaways from Internet Trends 2013

By |2017-07-15T13:16:37-04:00May 30th, 2013|Marketing Strategy, Tools and Technology|

Wow! For someone like me, the best thing about KPCB partner Mary Meeker’s annual Internet Trends presentation is it’s just packed with data. It’s always important to have a plan for your crisis communications, but I’m not talking about something that serious. I’m talking about the small blunders that aren’t going to [...]

I am not distracted…I am just “multi-toggling”

Some things never change — for example, my aversion to our home phone ringing at any time of day. It's true, I cringe and sigh in total exasperation every single time the phone rings. I don’t mind the blinking on the answering machine at all (because “YES! I MISSED a call! Great!) But when the phone rings, [...]

5 Fantastic Free Visual Resources for Writers

By |2017-07-15T13:16:37-04:00May 20th, 2013|Tools and Technology, Words, Language and Labels|

Five Fantastic Free (and Easy-to-Use) Visual Resources for Writers would be a better title for this post. I must confess that for me, the easy-to-use part is even more important than the free factor. In an earlier post I wrote about my discomfort with the online trend away from words and toward anything visual. But while writers and content marketers want to be read, original photography can be unaffordable, stock photography can get boring and few of us have regular access to a graphic designer with the time available to help develop original visuals to match our blog and content generation schedule.

LinkedIn: How is your profile?

By |2017-07-15T13:16:37-04:00May 13th, 2013|Best Practices and Tools, Social Media|

LinkedIn can be a very valuable resource, which you should take full advantage of—both for your company and yourself. If potential clients or hires can get a better grasp of who you are and what you do, they will be much more informed about the potential for a good match.
